A lot of people might hate me for this saying this, but NGE is pretty much entry level weeaboo garbage. Now most peoples’ reaction is gunna be, “oh come on, it’s classic!” Well yeah, it’s classic entry level weeaboo garbage. The concept of the story is fine in itself, but there is just so much else involved with it that ruins it all.

I think it is hard for anyone to not think Shinji is literally the most annoying & worthless anime protagonist ever. And yeah, I do know he is supposed to be based on the creator’s social issues & anxiety. I just don’t care, he is bad enough to ruin everything on his own by simply existing. If you identity with him some how, you should probably seek some kind of mental help.

Now the next thing people say to me if I say this to them in real life is “but Asuka is a badass!” Ok sure, a painfully generic badass. Also, she is so much of a bitch that it is overkill. She is simply unlikable.

“Well Rei isn’t so mean and she is still cool!” Rei is another generic enigma character. “Woah look how esoteric she is! I don’t know what’s happening so that makes it cool!” That is just childish, I hate to break it to anyone who might think that immaturely. You more than likely like her or Asuka because you would wanna fuck them.

The supporting characters I don’t care about either. Hot woman who just turns into basically a babysitter for all the stupid kids. Hot science lady who doesn’t do anything. Cold & uncaring father.

Maybe it wasn’t a trope at the time, but the one guy main character surrounded by attractive girls is so disgusting to me. It’s like the writer is so socially awkward & sexually repressed that he has to create this little dream scenario where the weak-kneed Asian boy has all these super hot girls in his life that have to pay attention to him. NGE takes it even farther because it just details how much of a pathetic little loser Shinji is and nothing ever comes of it. It’s just this embarrassingly self-indulgent sob story.

“Well there are other guys!” Yeah and they all either die, or make Shinji question his sexuality it would seem. More self-indulgence by the closet bisexual Hideaki Anno.

“Fine, well now they have that new girl Mari blahblahblah!” Ok, well, ya got me there. I don’t know much about her. Perhaps I’ll take a look at the new OVA sometime in the future, but at the moment, I am too thoroughly disgusted by the pastel weeaboo tumblr anime marxist fandom of NGE.

“You shouldn’t let a fandom ruin a great anime for you!” To that I would reply with a “maybe, maybe” in the TF2 Heavy’s accent. However I already know the over arching theme of everything, I can’t imagine it going a completely different direction than the original. It is just more fluff in a universe that was so lacking in details to begin with. However, all of this isn’t my biggest issue with NGE.

It’s the fetishization of Christian symbolism along with how embarrassingly edgy & esoteric the fandom seems to think it is. These are the same people who wear an upside down cross yet have no idea what it means… No idea that it is the Cross of St. Peter and means something completely different and ironically opposed to the meaning they place on it with the use of their pea-sized brain. It is that idiotic & unaware hypocrisy that makes me want to vomit. Going along with that is the perceived esoteric value that it has to pretentious little internet trans*faggots. Some might place this all on the fandom, but these two themes are so integral to NGE that it cannot be cleanly separated.
